There’s some exciting news about Google’s future Tensor chips. Recently, there was a big leak about the Tensor G5 and G6. It looks like TSMC will start making these chips instead of Samsung. The G5, which has a codename “Laguna” will be made using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process. It will have one main Arm Cortex-X4 core, five performance Cortex-A725 cores, and two efficiency Cortex-A520 units. Plus, it will include a dual-core Imagination Technologies (IMG) DXT-48-1536 unit running at 1.1 GHz.

Google frankel chipset on geekbench

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. A mysterious device called “Google Frankel” showed up on GeekBench. Many think this might be the Tensor G5. The CPU setup matches well, with one core running up to 3.40 GHz, five performance cores up to 2.86 GHz, and two efficiency cores up to 2.44 GHz.

However, there’s a small twist. The leak says this chip uses Power VR graphics, not the Imagination Technologies (IMG) DXT-48-1536. But don’t worry too much! Power VR is still part of the Imagination Technologies family, so it’s not a huge mistake. This could just be a mix-up, and maybe this GeekBench listing is indeed for the Tensor G5. Just keep in mind that the benchmark scores might not be super reliable since this is an early version of the chip.
